Hillside United Methodist Church celebrates one hundred years
A special Sunday for the Hillside United Methodist Church in Duluth celebrating their 100 years. While the actual building of the church is from 1951, the congregation has been around for one hundred years.
Pastor Jeremy Woodley, who’s been serving at Hillside for a month said its a very welcoming church.
“It’s been here a long time and there’s been an interesting history of different names and places, but always the same spirit,” Woodley said. “
Woodley said his family of six moved up from Texas, and the people of the Northland have shown them nothing but kindness.
“It’s been awesome because we’ve needed things for our kids, we have four kids. And so getting them connected to the church members here has been helping us to do that,” Woodley said. “People who come in have a need for a community, and welcome them and start to connect with those people.”
Carolyn Dahl, a long-time member said the Hillside United Methodist Church was a place important for her kids growing up.
“I’ve been a member here 62 years,” Dahl said. “I hope it will stay in the neighborhood and then the hillside community and be part of the community and welcome people. We feel like we’re a very welcoming church.
Dahl said she hopes Hillside United Methodist Church can continue on for another hundred years.
