KING U. INSTITUTE FOR FAITH AND CULTURE SPEAKER SERIES—Distinguished law professor and former Department of Justice (DOJ) advisor Barbara Armacost joins King’s Institute for Faith & Culture (IFC) for two engaging discussions on Monday, Nov. 13. Armacost serves as a professor of law at the University of Virginia (UVA), where she focuses on criminal procedure, policing and the law, religious liberty, and civil rights litigation. Prior to becoming a law professor, she worked for two years as an attorney adviser in the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. DOJ. APPALACHIAN THEATRE’S 85TH BIRTHDAY—Boone, N.C. The Appalachian Theatre at 559 King Street, Boone, N.C. is returning to 1938 for its 85th birthday on Tuesday, Nov. 14. ‘HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS’ FUNDRAISER—The Friends of the Southwest Virginia Museum invite you to attend “Home for the Holidays”, an elegant holiday banquet, on Friday, Nov. 17, from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at 10 West 1st St. North, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219. SANTA TRAIN AT SANTA’S DEPOT IN KINGSPORT—On Saturday, Nov. 18, Santa’s Depot returns to Centennial Park (245 E. Main St., Downtown Kingsport) from 1-3 p.m. to kick off the holiday season. Santa’s Depot celebrates the arrival of Santa Claus to Kingsport, TN, on the 81st running of the Santa Train. Sponsored booths and activities include free hot chocolate, letters to Santa, Santa hats, reindeer food, stickers, candy canes and more! Children will receive an official Santa’s Depot activity passport when they arrive at the event to keep track of each booth they visit. All activities are free to children. VETERANS TREE—Abingdon Veterans Advisory Board is creating a Veterans Tree for this years Festival of Trees. The tree will represent all area Veterans and the key to success is everyone voting by placing donations under our tree. The annual Festival of Trees event is from mid-November to early January. Celebrate the Lighting of the Trees event on November 19th at 5:15 p.m., complete with singing, cider, and Santa at the Abingdon Visitor Center.
