The Mechanicsville Tea Party will hold this month’s meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Freedom Services and Training, 6701 Cold Harbor Road in Mechanicsville. It is directly across from Dollar General and not far from the Cold Harbor Road/Creighton Road traffic circle. Instead of having a guest speaker, the group will watch the widely acclaimed documentary “Mind Polluters.” It is about the efforts of grass roots volunteers, elected officials and Christian academics to expose the infiltration of our public school system with pornographic materials. The Hanover County Department of Community Resources and Senior Connections (the Capital Area Agency on Aging) will host a Caregiver Expo and Resource event on Wednesday, Nov. 15. The expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 175, 8700 Bell Creek Road. The event coincides with National Family Caregivers Month, a time to recognize and honor family caregivers across the country. According to the National Alliance for Caregiving, more than 40 million people in our country provide unpaid care to an aging adult each year. Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Richmond, Dowda Senior Consultants and Senior Connections will give presentations at the expo. There will also be 30 exhibitors, door prizes and refreshments. Come join us at the Historic Polegreen Church Site on Friday, Nov.17 at 5 p.m. for the annual Holiday Illumination! The Atlee High School Orchestra will be performing, and we will light up the church! There will be a Revolutionary War Encampment. The Local Cup Food Truck will be available for people to enjoy and the gift shop will be open to purchase special ornaments! Our Board Member, Tommy Nance, will be on site to sign copies of his book “America’s Forerunner.” The event is free to attend and there is plenty of parking on-site, so come out and partake in the festivities.
Mechanicsville’s Church of the Redeemer will be hosting its 42 annual Craft Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This annual favorite, which will boast over 100 craft vendors, will also feature breakfast, lunch, a bake sale, photos with Santa Claus and even a Santa Shop, where children can shop with family and friends. Raffle tickets will also be available at 3 for $5. A $1 donation at the door will earn attendees a door prize ticket and a can of non-perishable food earns a bonus ticket. The church is located at 8725 Meadowbridge Rd.

Mechanicsville Churches Emergency Functions One Stop Shop (MCEF OSS) is open for food, clothing and linens from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at 7235 Stonewall Parkway in Mechanicsville (rear parking lot). The shop is available for residents in the 23111 and 23116 zip codes with identification and proof of residency.
The Studley Seniors meet at Enon UMC, 6156 Studley Road, Mechanicsville, 23116 at 10:30 a.m. on the third Monday of the month. They enjoy fellowship, a devotion, a short business session, a program (entertainment/games) and a “covered dish” lunch. Saturdays The Community Salt Fish Breakfast is held at Enon UMC, 6156 Studley Road in Mechanicsille on the first Saturday of October-March, from 8-10 a.m. The Buffet Menu includes salt fish, scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, hash browns, corn cakes, biscuits, sausage gravy, apples, waffles, beverages and fellowship. Adults $10, children (age 6 and under) eat free with the profits supporting missions. This season’s remaining schedule is Nov. 4, Dec. 2, Jan. 6, Feb. 3, March 2.

It is one of several groups in the Richmond area that crochets, knits, sews, and quilts gifts for the American Red Cross to distributed to those in need. Hanover Community Services Board says if you are a family member or friend of someone who has a mental illness, you are not alone. There is support. Hanover Community Services Board offers a family support group on the second Wednesday of every month from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Bell Creek location, 8475 Bell Creek Road in Mechanicsville. Facilitators Rebecca Strader and Heidi Brown invite you to attend this group that follows NAMI principles of confidentiality, respect, empathy and support to one another. The Hanover-Ashland TRIAD meets the second Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the new Atlee Library, 9212 Rutlandshire Drive, Mechanicsville.
